FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting. In the steel billet with a thickness of 160–350 mm, a width of 1600–2400 mm manufacturing performing the soft compression by means of a pair of support rolls. Mentioned compression is applied when the continuously cast billet core has a temperature corresponding to the solids content of 0.1, up to the point in time, when the continuously cast billet core has a temperature corresponding to the solids content of 0.7–0.8, provided, that the solids content in the continuously cast billet before the start of solidification is 0, and after completion of solidification is 1.0. Produced continuously cast billet thickness ratio, compression degree in the soft compression zone and the continuously cast billet extrusion speed satisfies the ratio 0.3 / (V × α) < Z < 1.5 / (V × α), where Z is the compression degree, mm/m; V is the continuously cast billet extrusion speed, m/min; α is the thickness ratio, non-dimensional.
EFFECT: enabling the centerline segregation and internal cracks in the continuously cast billets prevention.
