FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting of steel. Molten steel is fed into cooled crystallizer, ingot is drawn therefrom and cooling water is sprayed thereon. First, the point of hardening of the ingot and the flow rate of the sprayed cooling water and the ingot drawing speed are determined. Design point of hardening of the ingot is specified, at which the ingot drawing speed is V0 (m/min), and the cooling water flow rate is W0 (kg/t of the ingot). When changing the ingot drawing speed to the value V1 different from V0, and the specified design point for completion of the ingot solidification, flow rate W1, wherein flow rate Wt for period of time t (min), obtained by dividing preset length Lt of ingot from crystallizer outlet to preset point in casting direction by speed V0, and flowing from moment of time Tc, at which ingot drawing speed is changed, less flow rate W1 at V1 is less than V0, and flow rate Wt is higher than flow rate W1 at V1 higher than V0.

EFFECT: preventing the point of completion of solidification relative to the specified design point even when changing the ingot drawing speed.
