SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemistry and technology of high-molecular compounds, namely to polymeric cryogels and their preparation with the aim of using the formed materials in medicine, cosmetology and technology. Polymer composition for the preparation of a polyvinyl alcohol cryogel includes polyvinyl alcohol, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and a low molecular weight additive, as used in which are soluble in DMSO chaotropic substances or their mixtures. Method for increasing the rigidity and heat resistance of PVA cryogels includes preparing a DMSO polymer solution and a low molecular weight additive, 1-5-fold cryogenic treatment of the resulting solution by freezing it at a temperature from -10 to -40 °C for 6–48 hours, followed by thawing and, if necessary, washing with water to remove water-soluble substances.

EFFECT: invention provides for increasing the rigidity and heat resistance of PVA cryogels when they are formed in a DMSO medium with the addition of a chaotropic substance.
