FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of forming a polyvinyl alcohol cryogel, which includes cryogenic treatment of aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution or aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution containing dispersed filler and/or dissolved substances to form a primary cryogel in a casting mould and applying mechanical action on the obtained cryogel. Secondary formation of the polyvinyl alcohol cryogel includes mechanical action selected from a group comprising bending, twisting and compression in modes which do not lead to breakdown of the primary cryogel, followed by freezing thereof at -10°…-50°C for 1-48 hours and subsequent melting at a rate of 0.5-0.001°C/min. The primary cryogel is obtained from 5-25 wt % polyvinyl alcohol solution in water.

EFFECT: forming polyvinyl alcohol cryogel by repeated cryogenic treatment and fixing the altered shape of the cryogel.
