FIELD: fuels.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for manufacturing pelletized fuel from uranium-molybdenum powders and can be used in the manufacture of fuel pellets from uranium-molybdenum metal powders enriched in uranium 235 to 7% for fuel elements of nuclear reactors. The tablets are sintered in an inert argon atmosphere in the temperature range from 1100 to 1155°C. Uranium-molybdenum powder with a fraction size of 160 mcm and a molybdenum content of 9.0 to 10.5 wt.% is used as the starting powder. The powder is preheated at a temperature of 500°C for 10-20 hours (in an argon environment), followed by cold pressing of tablets in a matrix with a force of up to 950 MPa. An embodiment of the method is possible, in which, when manufacturing uranium-molybdenum tablets with a binder (plasticizer), the tablets are heated in argon from 300 to 450°C before sintering for 2-4 hours to remove the binder.
EFFECT: increase in the uranium content of the fuel, a decrease in the amount of heat accumulated in the core of a nuclear reactor, and a decrease in energy release in the event of a violation of the normal operating conditions of a nuclear reactor, which will improve the safety and emergency stability of the reactor.
