SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the pharmaceutical industry, in particular to the use of a collagen hydrolysate for the treatment of sarcopenia. Use of collagen hydrolysate as an active ingredient for the treatment of sarcopenia, wherein the collagen hydrolysate does not contain any free amino acids added to thereto and has an average molecular weight of up to 5,000 Da. Use of collagen hydrolysate as an active substance against degenerative muscle loss and for improving muscle strength. Use of collagen hydrolysate as an active ingredient for reducing age-related muscle loss. Use of collagen hydrolysate as an active ingredient for stimulating the conversion of body fat into muscle mass. Method for the treatment of sarcopenia, which comprises repeated oral administration of collagen hydrolysate to a patient in combination with muscle exercise.
EFFECT: above-described collagen hydrolysate effectively increases muscle mass, reduces fat mass and metabolic cost.
