SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the computer equipment. Computer-implemented method for constructing a hash table for hash-based block selection, in which for each of the many potentially relevant blocks in the picture of video data: evaluating whether a potentially appropriate block satisfies a complexity criterion for throwing homogeneous blocks, and the homogeneous block being a congenerous block; if the potentially appropriate block does not meet the complexity criterion: evaluating whether the potentially appropriate block satisfies a uniform selection criterion, and the uniform selection criterion is whether the coordinates of the potentially appropriate block are aligned with the particular divisions of said picture; if the potentially appropriate block satisfies the uniform selection criterion: determining a hash value of the block for the potentially appropriate block and adding this hash value of the block to the hash table; and if the potentially appropriate block does not meet the criteria for uniform selection, the potentially appropriate block isn’t included in the hash table.

EFFECT: performance improvement when encoding video content.
