SUBSTANCE: system includes: means for determining the pressure setpoint containing means for determining the characteristics of tires, the pressure of which is to be regulated by means of a tire pressure controlling apparatus, means for determining the vehicle speed and means for calculating the setpoint pressure in said tire depending on the characteristics of said tire and on speed. Also disclosed is a method for determining a setpoint for said tire pressure controlling apparatus including the step of determining tire characteristics, the pressure of which is to be regulated by a pressure regulating device, the step of determining the vehicle speed and the step of calculating the setpoint pressure in said tire depending on the characteristics of said tire and speed.
