SUBSTANCE: invention relates to polymers or hydrogels comprising sulphonic acid groups and ophthalmic devices formed therefrom. Proposed is a silicone-containing polymer comprising a sulfonic acid component formed from reactive components comprising (i) at least one silicone component and (ii) at least one sulfonic acid-containing component, wherein the sulfonic acid-containing component is comprised of a salt formed by a non-polymerizable, hydrophilic base and a polymerizable sulfonic acid. Also proposed is a silicone hydrogel comprising said polymer, a contact lens comprising said silicone polymer or formed from a corresponding hydrogel, and a method of making a contact lens.
EFFECT: technical result is the proposed silicone-containing polymer can be produced in a cost-effective way, and the cations used to obtain salts can be easily removed from the obtained contact lenses.
