FIELD: radar ranging and radio navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radar engineering area and can be used in designing of radar relief metric systems intended for determination of location of aircrafts. Result is achieved due to the radiation of radio waves in the direction of the earth's surface and the subsequent reception of reflected radio waves, radio waves are emitted in the form of an ultrashort pulse over one broad beam, the reflected radio waves are received over several narrow beams and the slant range of the aircraft to the earth's surface are determined by delaying the beam signals relative to the radiated ultrashort pulse, whole spectrum of an ultrashort pulse is emitted along a wide beam, and parts of the spectrum of a reflected ultrashort pulse are received along narrow beams so that the spectral bands of narrow rays do not overlap, and in total they cover the entire spectrum of an emitted ultrashort pulse.
EFFECT: improving the speed of radar relief-based systems, allowing a navigation system to function while an aircraft is moving at elevated speeds and at lower altitudes, as well as increasing their resolution in terms of range, secrecy and noise immunity.
