FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and system for controlling the heating power of an oxygen sensor heater in order to reduce the probability of its degradation under the action of water. According to one example, the method for the engine comprises regulating the heating power of the heating element of the oxygen sensor when said power is increased by a threshold value. Method comprises a subsequent increase in the heating power back to the base power level in response to a decrease in the temperature of the heating element.
EFFECT: technical result is to reduce the degradation of the oxygen sensor.
