FIELD: physical or chemical processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a thermocycler comprising a rotatable platform having reaction wells and/or being adapted to receive reaction containers. Rotatable platform and/or reaction wells are formed, at least in part, of a material which is adapted to be inductively heated by exposure to electromagnetic energy. Electromagnetic energy source is provided and is configured to direct electromagnetic energy at the rotatable platform. Electromagnetic energy source completely surrounds a sufficient amount of the rotatable platform in order to heat the platform substantially simultaneously. Invention comprises a method of cycling a reaction mixture between predetermined temperatures utilising the improved thermocycler apparatus of the invention, as well as use of the improved thermocycler apparatus for conducting a nucleic acid amplification reaction such as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and a ligase chain reaction (LCR).
EFFECT: non-contact improved thermocycler has a higher cycling rate, which allows to reduce the total cycle time.
