FIELD: motor vehicle industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fuel tank designs for vehicles, and in particular to reinforcing ribs formed in the fuel tank in the area of the recess formed by the fuel tank, which accommodates the fuel filter. Fuel tank (30) comprises a housing forming recess (18), which is formed by rear side wall (24) and front side wall (26), which extend laterally inwards from side (20) to recessed wall (28), and contains an open side facing the side member. Tank (30) includes a plurality of horizontally extending recessed ribs (32–36) formed in the fuel tank adjacent to the fuel filter. Fuel filter is located in recess (18). Ribs (32–36) include inner portion (40), transverse portion (42), and outer portion (44). Recessed ribs (32–36) contain upper and lower walls that converge at the point where they are connected to the main wall.
EFFECT: reduced deformation of the fuel tank and loosening of the contact of the fuel filter with the side member during a perpendicular lateral impact test at 50 miles per hour.
