SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer equipment. Technical result is achieved by receiving a signal from a rolling-shutter camera, which captures frames by exposing a plurality of lines of each frame in sequence, the signal containing a coded light signal; and obtaining a corresponding sample of the coded light signal from each of a number of said lines, said number of lines being exposed for a duration, and said number is a substantially smaller number of the lines than a number of lines exposed by the camera in each frame; wherein the coded light signal contains a message having a duration longer than the duration during which said number of lines being exposed, and the message being repeated many times with a timing such that another part of the message is seen by the camera in each of the many different frames mentioned; and wherein the method further comprises synchronizing in time the different parts of the message from a plurality of different frames and reassembling the message from the parts synchronized in time.
