FIELD: food industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the food industry. Disclosed is a method for producing digestible keratinaceous material from feathers, hair, hooves or nails, comprising steps of hydrolysing the material in the presence of water and drying the resulting material containing at least partially insoluble material, in a dryer with a temperature/time/pressure combination which limits the drop in pepsin and/or ileal digestibility by less than 10 %, and/or such that the pepsin and/or ileal digestibility remains higher than 85 %, or such that the pepsin and ileal digestibility remains higher than respectively 75 % and 85 %. Resulting material is at least partially insoluble in water, if particles and fibrous material are visible with the naked eye upon placing 1 g in 2 ml of water.
EFFECT: invention provides keratinaceous material with improved digestibility.
