SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a drying technique, and more specifically to dryers with an active hydrodynamic regime, intended for drying dispersed plant materials in a twisted suspended layer of inert bodies, and can be used in the production of food, medical products and dyes, animal feed, etc. Unit for drying plant materials in a layer of inert bodies contains a biconical chamber of a weighted swirling layer of inert bodies with tangential inputs of the main coolant, a separation chamber and a feeder. In order to intensify the drying process and regulate the dispersed composition of the dried product by size, a polydisperse layer of inert particles is used, along with a separate flow of coolant. Inner cone contains windows for the flow of inert particles and tangential inputs of additional coolant, and the separation chamber is equipped with a movable biconical insert.

EFFECT: production of unit for drying dispersed plant materials, which allows: to intensify the drying process by using a polydisperse layer of inert particles containing two fractions, different in density and size, and using organized circulation of the fine part of the inert particles and the dried material in the working volume of the dryer; to regulate the dispersed composition of the dried product by using a tunable separation chamber.
