SUBSTANCE: invention relates to phase-rotary devices (PRD), related to electrical engineering and electric power engineering. Method involves a step-by-step switching of transformer shunt windings using a thyristor switch, leading to a boost voltage on its serial winding. Before the start of the step-by-step switching of each phase of the thyristor switch, the serial winding of the switching phase transformer is disconnected using a bi-directional thyristor switch, connected in series with this serial winding of the transformer from the power source and load, by removing control pulses from it, the presence of zero current in the bidirectional thyristor key is detected, the time interval is withstood, duration of which exceeds the recovery time of the thyristors of the bidirectional thyristor switch, the switching process of the thyristor switches of the thyristor switch is carried out even after switching them in a new state, the serial winding of a transformer of a switching phase is connected to the power source and load using a bi-directional thyristor switch by applying control pulses to it.

EFFECT: technical result is higher reliability of PRD by ensuring the switching of the thyristor switches of the thyristor switch in a wide range of changes in the magnitude and nature of the current transmission lines.
