FIELD: data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of photogrammetric processing of space images (SI) of a locality. Method of identifying the reference points on the terrain SI during their transformation is that the parameters of the primary geodetic referencing of the processed SI are determined on the basis of the information accompanying this image; intersection of the processed and reference SI is determined; copies of the reference and processed SI with low resolution are created; four reference points on these copies are identified; parameters of the primary geodetic referencing of the processed SI are specified; pairs of fragments of the processed SI and the reference SI are formed; pivot points on each pair of fragments are identified; control points are selected from pairs of key points of fragments by quality criterion; transformation model of the processed SI is built; set of reference points corresponding to this model is formed.

EFFECT: reduction in the time of identification of reference points and the number of falsely identified reference points, which leads to a decrease in the error of the geodetic referencing of the SI of the area.
