SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol forming cartridge for use in an electrically controlled system which generates an aerosol. Disclosed is an aerosol forming cartridge for use in an electrically controlled aerosol generating system, wherein the aerosol forming cartridge comprises a base layer comprising at least one cavity; at least one substrate forming an aerosol located in at least one cavity, wherein the aerosol forming substrate contains a tobacco containing material with volatile aromatic tobacco compounds which are released from the aerosol forming substrate while heating, or a nicotine containing liquid substrate with volatile nicotinic compounds released from the aerosol forming substrate while heating; and a protective film, removably attached to the main layer and provided for substantially hermetic sealing of at least one aerosol forming substrate, within at least one cavity before use; wherein the main layer and at least one aerosol forming substrate stay in contact on a substantially planar first contact surface, and the main layer and the protective film are in contact on a substantially planar second contact surface; and wherein first and second contact surfaces are substantially parallel.

EFFECT: tight sealing of the substrate inside the cartridge, freshness of the cartridge, easy manufacturing of the cartridge, reliability, avoiding the need to wrap the pack itself, which reduces the cost of packing several cartridges together, maintaining the correct arrangement of the aerosol forming substrate inside the cartridge and facilitating the compaction of the aerosol forming substrate inside the cartridge.
