SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol-generating system capable of detecting and recognizing various types of aerosol-generating cartridges. Said electrically operated aerosol-generating system comprises an aerosol-generating device, a first removable aerosol-forming cartridge containing at least a first resistive heater, and a second removable aerosol forming cartridge comprising at least a second resistive heater, moreover, the first removable aerosol-forming cartridge contains a first aerosol-forming substrate requiring a first heating profile, and the second removable aerosol-forming cartridge comprises a second aerosol-forming substrate requiring a second heating profile, and the aerosol-forming device comprises a main body, forming a cavity and at least one opening for detachably accommodating the first or second aerosol-forming cartridge in the cavity; electrical power supply and control unit for controlling the supply of electrical current from the electrical power supply to the first or second resistive heater; wherein the first aerosol-forming cartridge comprises a first electrical load, comprising a resistive load of the first resistive heater and configured to be electrically connected to the control unit when the first aerosol-forming cartridge is placed inside said cavity; the second aerosol forming cartridge contains a second electrical load containing a resistive load of the second resistive heater and configured to be electrically connected to the control unit, when this second aerosol-forming cartridge is placed within said cavity, the second electrical load being different from the first electrical load; the control unit is configured to measure the electrical load when an aerosol-forming cartridge is placed inside said cavity to detect whether the first or second cartridge has been placed inside said cavity; and the control unit is configured to control the supply of electrical current to the first resistive heater according to the first or second heating profile at least partially based on the measured electrical load.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to create an electrically operated aerosol generating system, which would provide a stable and reliable means of detecting the presence of the aerosol-forming cartridge inside the aerosol-generating device, as well as having improved functionality.
