FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical engineering, specifically to the means of determining vital signs of a subject. Device comprises an interface for receiving a periodic photoplethysmographic (PPG) signal obtained from a subject by a PPG measurement, signal partitioning unit for partitioning the PPG signal in time into PPG sub-signals covering a half period or an integer multiple of a half period, a normalising unit for normalising the PPG signal in advance of the partitioning in time and/or amplitude, a signal combination unit for combining a number of normalised PPG sub-signals to obtain a combined PPG sub-signal, and a vital sign processor for deriving a desired vital sign from the PPG signal, one or more combined PPG sub-signals or an enhanced PPG signal obtained by consecutively arranging a number of combined PPG sub-signals. Method of determining vital signs of a subject is carried out using a device that is also equipped with a computer-readable medium that stores a computer program for performing the steps of the method.
EFFECT: use of inventions can improve signal-to-noise ratio and reduce artifacts.
