SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical equipment. Optical vital signs sensor and a method of its operation is proposed, wherein the sensor includes at least one light source with a main and auxiliary light units and a photodetector, a motion sensor configured to detect the movement of the user, a periodicity measuring unit for analyzing the output signal of at least one motion sensor to detect the periodicity in its output signal and a control unit configured to control operation of the at least one main and auxiliary light units and activating at least one auxiliary light unit in addition to at least one main light unit if the periodicity measuring unit does not detect a periodicity in the output of the motion sensor.

EFFECT: group of inventions allows to increase the efficiency of registration of vital functions.
