SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol-generating system comprising a source of nicotine and a source of delivery enhancing compound. Aerosol-generating system contains a source of nicotine and a source of delivery-enhancing compound, while the source of the delivery-improving compound contains the reaction product of one or both of: (i) alpha-keto carboxylic acid and compounds of formula (I)

where R1 selected from alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl; or (ii) alpha-hydroxy acids and compounds of formula (II)
,
where X represents halogen, and R2 selected from H, alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl.
EFFECT: creation of an aerosol-generating system that would be easy to produce and ensure effective reaction stoichiometry, as well as stable delivery of nicotine to the user, and where also the delivery enhancing compound is sufficiently stable for storage for longer periods without significant polymerization or decomposition, which can adversely change the properties of the delivery enhancing compound.
