SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol generating system comprising a cartridge and a mouthpiece, the mouthpiece having a variable air inlet. Aerosol generating system comprises cartridge (2), wherein cartridge (2) comprises first compartment (6) containing nicotine source, and second compartment (8) containing acid source. First compartment (6) has first air inlet (10) and first outlet (12) for air, and second compartment (8) has second air inlet (14) and second outlet opening (16) for air. Aerosol generating system additionally comprises mouthpiece (4) configured to engage with cartridge (2) to form chamber (26), in fluid communication with first air outlet (12) and second air outlet (16). Said mouthpiece 4 comprises third air inlet 32 communicated with chamber 26 and third air outlet 27, in fluid communication with chamber (26), wherein third air inlet (32) defines flow area of flow, and wherein nozzle (2) is made so that cross-section area of flow through third inlet hole for air (32) is variable.
EFFECT: technical result is providing improved capabilities of anticipating or regulating reaction stoichiometry, total delivery of nicotine or RTD particles through an aerosol-generating system.
