SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of computer equipment. Method of encoding information for applying image-adaptive offsets to an image is disclosed, the method comprising: determining the position of the range of sample values in which adaptive offsets to the sample should be applied, from the full range of values of the brightness sample, while said range is less than half of the full range, and said range has some predetermined number of consecutive sub-bands, and each of said predetermined number of consecutive sub-bands includes a plurality of brightness sample values; determining appropriate offset values for the sub-bands, wherein the offset value determined for each sub-band is applied to the brightness sample values in the sub-band under consideration; encoding a specific position of the range in which the sample-adaptive offset needs to be applied, and certain offset values as the mentioned information, and encoding the brightness sample values for the image samples.

EFFECT: technical result is to ensure the application of image-adaptive offsets to an image.
