SUBSTANCE: invention relates to novel compounds of formula I, wherein R is hydrogen or methyl, and salts thereof. Invention also relates to a method of controlling plant growth, which comprises applying an effective amount of a compound to a plant in need of growth control, as well as a method for production, which includes: (a) reacting (S)-abscisic acid with an alkylating agent to form an ester, (b) treating the compound obtained at step a with a base and a methylating agent in a solvent, (c) and optional hydrolysis of compounds obtained at step b.
