FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machining of materials. Invention objective is increase of productivity and quality of the processed surface of bodies of rotation. Rotary cutter represents a body with a cutting edge made in the form of a profile "equiaxial outline" in the form of a Reuleaux triangle, rear surface of the cutting edge is made at an angle α to cutting plane from 5 to 10 degrees. Design of cutter for rotary turning provides possibility of considerable improvement of processing quality - reduction of roughness up to 2 times, elimination of kinematic waviness. It is possible to increase productivity from 1.3 to 2.5 times due to increased cutting speed up to 933 m/min without damage to quality parameters by parameters of roughness and kinematic waviness and ensuring accuracy of sizes of 6–8 grade.
EFFECT: invention can be used in processing of shafts from various materials, including hard-to-treat, hardened and composite.
