FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to interventional medical procedures, such as angioplasty, and more specifically to the design of a catheter with markings to reduce usage of fluoroscopy during such procedures. Kit for treating an affected area of a patient's vasculature comprises a guidewire and a catheter. Guidewire has a first distal portion adapted for positioning on or near the affected area, and a first proximal portion comprising first markings that can be perceived by a doctor outside the vasculature without using fluoroscopy. Each first marking of said markings represents a distance from a first predetermined initial point on the guide wire. Catheter has a shaft with a second distal portion adapted for positioning on the affected area, and a second proximal portion comprising second markings that can be perceived by a doctor outside the vasculature without using fluoroscopy. Each second marking represents a distance from a second predetermined initial point of the catheter. Distance between the first predetermined initial point and each first marking corresponds to the distance between the second predetermined point and each second marking. Catheter comprises a balloon, and the balloon is located at the distal end of the catheter. Second predetermined initial point is located on the proximal or distal end of the balloon. According to the second embodiment of the kit for treating an affected area of the vasculature of a patient, the first proximal portion of the guidewire is made with a first measuring ruler thereon. This line can be perceived by a doctor outside the vasculature without using fluoroscopy. First measuring line is adapted to measure distance from first predetermined initial point on the guidewire. Second proximal portion of the catheter is made with a second measuring ruler thereon. This line can be perceived by a doctor outside the vasculature without using fluoroscopy. Second measuring ruler is adapted to measure the distance from the second predetermined initial point on the catheter. According to the third embodiment, the kit for treating an affected area of a vasculature of a patient comprises a first penetrating catheter and a second catheter. First penetrating catheter comprises a first shaft with a first distal portion adapted for positioning on or near an affected area, and a first proximal portion with a first marking in a first portion. Second catheter comprises a second shaft with a second distal portion adapted for positioning on the affected area, and a second proximal portion with a second marking in a second portion, substantially corresponding to the first portion of the first marking, in which first and second markings are visible outside the body of patient without fluoroscopy. According to the fourth embodiment of the kit for treating an affected area of the vasculature of the patient, the first proximal portion of the first penetrating catheter also comprises a second marking on a second portion. First marking corresponds to the first boundary of the affected area, and the second marking corresponds to the second boundary of the affected area. Second proximal portion of the second catheter is made with a third marking on a third portion substantially corresponding to the first portion or the second portion on the first penetrating catheter, wherein each first, second and third marking is visible outside the patient's body without using fluoroscopy. According to the fifth embodiment of the kit for treating an affected area of the vasculature of the patient, the first proximal portion of the first penetrating catheter comprises first markings which can be perceived by a doctor outside the vasculature without using fluoroscopy, wherein each marking represents a distance from a first predetermined initial point on a first penetrating catheter. Second proximal portion of the second catheter comprises second markings that can be perceived by a doctor outside the vasculature without using fluoroscopy, wherein each second marking is a distance from a second predetermined initial point of the second catheter. Distance between the first predetermined initial point and each first marking corresponds to the distance between the second predetermined point and each second marking. According to the sixth embodiment of the kit for treating an affected area of the vasculature of the patient, the first proximal portion of the first penetrating catheter is made with a first measuring ruler thereon, wherein said ruler can be perceived by a doctor outside the vasculature without using fluoroscopy to measure the distance from the first predetermined initial point on the first penetrating catheter. Second proximal portion of the second catheter is made with a second measuring ruler thereon, wherein said ruler can be perceived by a doctor outside the vasculature without using fluoroscopy to measure the distance from the second predetermined initial point on the second catheter. Device for treating an affected area of a vasculature of a patient comprises a penetrating catheter comprising a shaft with a distal portion adapted to be positioned on or near the affected area, and a proximal portion having markings which are visible from outside the patient's body without using fluoroscopy, wherein at least one of the markings is chemiluminescent or photoluminescent.
EFFECT: inventions provide correct and high-accuracy positioning without fluoroscopy.
