FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy of titanium and can be used for production of artificial rutile from titanium-containing raw material, in particular, from ilmenite concentrates. Method involves reduction annealing of ilmenite concentrates in a mixture with a carbon-containing reducing agent. Reconditioned product cooling to temperature 80 °C in water bath with continuous stirring to produce pulp at ratio T:L = 1:5. After pulp is directed to magnetic separation with separation of magnetic and non-magnetic fractions. Magnetic fraction is leached with hydrochloric ferric chloride solution obtained during neutralization of chlorine-containing effluent gases of magnesium production with concentration of 250–570 g/dm3, while heating and continuous stirring. After that leached concentrate is separated from solution of iron chloride, then it is washed, dried to produce artificial rutile. Ferric chloride solution is returned to decontamination of chlorine-containing waste gases of magnesium production.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce the cost of the process of producing artificial rutile from ilmenite concentrates, to increase its productivity and to increase the degree of extraction of iron with simultaneous reduction of the degree of extraction of titanium.
