FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of determining the type of residual welding stresses and can be used in designing, manufacturing and inspecting welded structures. On the front and back sides of the welded joint, the patterns of trajectory fields of the main stresses are detected. Concentration of trajectories of main stresses is used to determine location of concentrators of residual stresses. Then, the obtained field patterns from the front and back sides are matched in accordance with their arrangement on the welded joint and in a combined "by clearance" position. At coincidence of concentrator locations and directions of trajectories on both sides type of stressed state is considered to be biaxial, and if mismatch – to triaxial.
EFFECT: disclosed is a method of determining type of residual welding stresses.
