SUBSTANCE: invention relates to free radical polymerisation. Described is a method of producing a polymer, comprising (a) providing a reaction mixture at pH from 3 to 7.5, containing (i) one or more vinyl monomers, (ii) one or more water-soluble nitrite salts, (iii) one or more initiators and (iv) water. Then, condition is set in said reaction mixture such that free radical polymerisation of said vinyl monomer takes place in situ. After steps (a) and (b) and before completion of said free-radical polymerisation, which enables to obtain said polymer, adding an inorganic basic compound to raise pH to above 7.5 of said reaction mixture to increase rate of said free-radical polymerisation in place of said free-radical polymerisation.

EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the rate of the polymerisation reaction.
