FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an aqueous dispersion for the preparation of coating materials, to a water-borne base coat suitable for coating automotive bodies and/or parts for mounting on automotive bodies, method for producing a multilayer color and/or for a color system effect, and method for preparing an aqueous dispersion. Said aqueous dispersion comprises at least one copolymer obtained by polymerizing olefinically unsaturated monomers in the presence of an aqueous dispersion of polyurethane using a water soluble initiator. Olefinically unsaturated monomers are dosed so that their concentration in the reaction solution does not exceed 6.0 wt% during the entire reaction time, based on the total amount of olefinically unsaturated monomers. Mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers includes at least one polyolefinically unsaturated monomer.

EFFECT: coatings produced using these dispersions have a high limit for the occurrence of pinholes and, consequently, the smallest number of surface defects, as well as improved adhesion in the case of multi-layer finishing.
