In the industrial plant monitoring and monitoring system, the human-machine interface module comprises a portable computer with a wireless transceiver. Said computer is programmed to perform multiple functions, including general monitoring of industrial plant, local monitoring of at least one of said stations and local monitoring of at least one of said stations. System comprises means for access of a portable computer to a communication network through a wireless transceiver so that a computer can send monitoring and/or monitoring commands to electronic monitoring and processing modules. System comprises a plurality of identification devices, wherein each monitored area is associated with a corresponding identification device for recognizing the presence of a portable computer in a defined monitored region. System performs control if the portable computer and the certain station are located in the same controlled area.
