FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of carbon-graphite materials, particularly to a method of producing thermally expanded graphite, which can be used as a filter material for purification of drinking water and waste water contaminated with oil and oil products. Method involves intercalation of graphite powder with 30–62 % perchloric acid followed by heating the mixture. Ratio of weight of graphite powder to weight of perchloric acid is 1:0.6–1:0.85. Intercalation process is carried out in two steps: at first of which mixing is performed until homogeneous consistence of mixture is obtained, and at the second stage, prior to heating, obtained mixture is held for 5–8 hours. Heating is performed in temperature range of 450–650 °C.
EFFECT: higher degree of expansion of graphite, improved sorption properties and simplified technology of its production.
