SUBSTANCE: tire (1) for wheels of heavy vehicles has tread band (2) comprising: a plurality of circumferential grooves (3, 4, 5, 6) and a plurality of lateral grooves (15) extending between two circumferential grooves (3, 4, 5, 6), which follow each other in axial direction, whereby multiple blocks (21) are formed. Each unit (21) contains radially external top surface (7) and has height (M) measured between upper surface and lower surface of corresponding transverse groove (15). Crosswise grooves (15) comprise first section (16) with width L1 and second section (17) with width L2, where L2<L1. First section (16) is at least partially confined by walls of two blocks (20, 21), which follow each other in the direction along the circumference. At least one filling element (18) is contained within first section (16). At least one filling element (18) has radial outer surface (19) located in radial direction inside relative to upper surface (7) of unit at distance (D) from it along radius making from 5 % to 50 % of height (M) of units (21). Area (A₂) determined on plan view of the surface, which is upper surface (19) of at least one filling element (18), exceeds 60 % of the area defined on the plan view (A₁) of surface of first section (16). At least one filling element (18) is located at distance from walls (27, 28), along, at least 70 % of its perimeter (P).

EFFECT: improved characteristics of road adhesion on surfaces of roads of any type, reduced rolling resistance, longer service life and reduced occurrence of uneven wear phenomena.
