FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing isobutylene by decomposing methyl-tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) on a heterogeneous aluminosilicate catalyst at high temperature in the presence of water vapour. Catalyst used is industrial aluminium silicate catalysts K-84 or K-97 or K-15. Process is carried out at temperature of 200–300 °C ratio H2O:MTBE = 1.0–3.0 and MTBE volumetric feed rate of 0.5–1.0 h-1.
EFFECT: disclosed method reduces the amount of dimethyl ether impurities and the cost of preparing the catalyst.
