FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of forming a corrosion-resistant layer on the surface of magnesium deformable alloys, particularly ultra-fine grain (hereinafter UFG) and coarse-grained (hereinafter referred to as CG) magnesium alloys of the Mg-Al system. Proposed method comprises preparation of UFG deformable magnesium alloy surface by grinding and polishing it to mirror luster. Preparation of coarse-grained alloy surface is carried out by preliminary annealing at temperature not lower than 400 °C for 1.5 hours with subsequent hardening, after which billet is ground and polished to mirror luster. Further, the surface is irradiated with nanosecond pulsed laser radiation in a scanning mode with a laser wavelength of 1,000 nm, a laser pulse duration of 100 ns, a laser pulse frequency of 4,000 pulses at power of 520 W, overlapping the irradiation spot by 90 %, with a scanning rate of 0.05 m/s and scanning step of 5 mcm.
EFFECT: high corrosion resistance of the alloy in a medium close to the human physiological medium.
