FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, namely to chemical-thermal treatment of surface of articles from titanium alloys, and can be used in production of parts of engines, in medicine and parts in other industries, operating in conditions of wear. Method of low-temperature ion nitriding of items from titanium alloys includes supply to vacuum chamber with said products of plasma-forming gas mixture containing nitrogen and argon. Before nitriding, equal-channel angular pressing is performed with formation of ultra-fine-grained structure, at which billet is heated to 600 °C and subjected to six pressing cycles in tooling, having two channels with angle of intersection 120°, wherein after each cycle workpiece is turned about longitudinal axis by 90°, and nitriding is carried out in glow discharge at temperature of 400–450 °C.
EFFECT: higher growth rate and thickness of the hardened layer at low-temperature ion nitration of titanium alloys and, as a result, higher wear resistance of the surface.
