FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a power supply (PD) in a power over Ethernet (PoE) system. For this purpose, it is proposed that PD selectively transmits PSE power request based on supporting said PSE autoclassification. Supporting PSE autoclassification determines the maximum power required to be allocated to this PD based on the measured power used by the autoclassing PD during classification. If PSE does not support autoclassification, it will instead assign PD maximum power by default. During operation PD determines whether PSE auto classification is maintained. If autoclassification is supported, then the power request shall not be transmitted, since otherwise PSE will allocate power based on this request instead of more accurate measurement.
EFFECT: technical result is providing efficient use of power supply unit (PSU) of supply equipment (PSE), since only effectively used power must be allocated.
