SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a device and a method for recognizing traffic lights. Device implementing traffic light recognition method includes camera, a module for obtaining cartographic information, a detector of the current position of the vehicle and a module for estimating the positions of the traffic light. Device further includes an image processing orientation setting module configured to set the direction of forming the camera images based on the position on the traffic light image and the direction of movement in the future on the traffic light image, camera orientation controller configured to change the camera images forming direction in advance to the image formation direction given by the image direction setting unit, as well as a traffic light recognition module configured to recognize a traffic light from an image.
EFFECT: accurate detection of the state of the illumination of the traffic light without affecting the orientation of the camera.
