SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a device and method for recognizing a traffic light. Group of inventions works as follows. Capture an image around the vehicle using a camera. Get map information around the vehicle and discover its own vehicle position. Evaluate the position of the traffic light on the image based on its own position and cartographic information. Using the vehicle behavior assessment module, vehicle behavior is assessed. Area of detection of the traffic light in the image is determined based on the estimated position of the traffic light in the image and the offset value of the traffic light position in the image due to the vehicle behavior. Detect the traffic light on the detection area.

EFFECT: setting of the traffic light detection area is provided, even when the difference in time arises between the time of updating the result of evaluating its own position and the time of image capture by the camera.
