FIELD: traffic light recognition.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a traffic light recognition method and a traffic light recognition device. A traffic light recognition method comprising the steps of capturing an image of a vehicle's direction of travel using an imaging unit, acquiring the location of a stop line corresponding to a traffic light located in the vehicle's direction of travel, estimating whether the vehicle can decelerate with a given deceleration acceleration, and whether it can stop before the stop line, based on the location of the stop line. The method comprises selecting a traffic light corresponding to a stop line as a target traffic light in a case where it is judged that the vehicle cannot stop before the stop line, setting a detection area corresponding to the target traffic light in an image, and determining the display state of the target traffic light by performing image processing in the detection area. The traffic light recognition device comprises an imaging unit mounted on a vehicle and a controller.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of image recognition.
