FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of alkylating hydrocarbons, in which an alkylated organic compound reacts with an alkylating agent to form an alkylate, in the presence of a catalyst, wherein catalyst is periodically subjected to regeneration stage by contact with starting material containing saturated hydrocarbon and hydrogen, said regeneration is carried out at 90 % or less of active cycle of catalyst, with an active catalyst cycle defined as the time from the beginning of feeding the alkylating agent to the moment when, compared to the inlet to the reactor section containing the catalyst, 20 % of the alkylating agent leaves the reactor section containing the catalyst, without conversion, without taking into account isomerisation inside the molecule, where said catalyst contains from 0.01 to 2 wt. % of hydrogenising metal, component of solid acid and rare-earth element, all being cerium or mixture of one or more rare-earth elements, wherein said rare earth element includes at least 0.3 wt. % of cerium in terms of total weight of catalyst, wherein amount of cerium in said mixture is at least 5 wt. % of mixture. Invention also relates to a catalyst.
EFFECT: catalyst is stable and highly active.
