SUBSTANCE: invention relates to display devices and, in particular, to projectors with double modulation (including laser projectors) and creation of halftone images in premodulator of the above projector. In the disclosed method of forming an image, pre-modulation activation signals are determined, wherein each of the pre-modulation activation signals controls the pre-modulator to create halftone images to be displayed or activated on the pre-modulator of the dual-modulation display system during a plurality of subframe periods during one frame period, such that halftone images generate a predetermined PSF (Progressive Segmented Frame), which compensates for artefacts when transmitting light, and the main modulator signal is determined, wherein the pre-modulation activation signals are synchronized with the main modulator signal containing the image to be displayed or activated on the main modulator of this dual modulation display system.
EFFECT: technical result is improved formation of halftone images of pre-modulator.
