FIELD: CHEMISTRY.
SUBSTANCE: INVENTION RELATES TO A METHOD OF PRODUCING A NEUTRON CONVERTER FROM BORON CARBIDE OR BORON FILM ON A SUBSTRATE TRANSPARENT TO NEUTRONS. AT THE FIRST STAGE, THE TRANSPARENT METAL SUBSTRATE IS POLISHED BY FINE GRINDING, AND AT NEXT STEP IS COATED WITH BORON CARBIDE OR BORON FILM BY SPUTTERING (CATHODE SPRAYING). IF NECESSARY, A LAYER OF ADHESION PROMOTER IS APPLIED BETWEEN METAL SUBSTRATE AND LAYER OF BORON OR BORON CARBIDE.
EFFECT: OBTAINED COATINGS HAVE HIGH HOMOGENEITY OVER THE THICKNESS OF THE LAYER, HOMOGENEOUS CHEMICAL AND ISOTOPIC COMPOSITION, AS WELL AS LOW IMPURITIES, SUCH AS OXYGEN OR NITROGEN.
