FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection and measurement of nuclear radiation flux. Position-sensitive detector of radiation of thermal and cold neutrons from a compact test sample contains spacer inserts having a wedge shape and arranged so that the substrates are inclined relative to each other at an angle β, equal to the angle of the diverging neutron flux from the compact test sample falling into each chamber, determined by the formula where 2h is the width of the chambers on the side of the flow entering the chamber; R is the distance from the sample to the middle of the first anode wire, which is determined from the side of the flow entering the chamber. Detector itself acquires a fan-shaped structure and is placed so that neutrons fall on the surface of the cathode at the inlet of each chamber at the same small angle α, which is set from 1 to 5 degrees.
EFFECT: high efficiency of detecting the flow of scattered thermal and cold neutrons.
