FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to laser processing and can be used in various branches of machine building. Parts of sheet hypoeutectoid and eutectoid carbon steel are laser-cut to form a hardened near-surface layer in the cutting zone. Thermogasdynamic effect on the cutting zone is carried out by laser radiation in the infrared region of the spectrum. Required depth (L) of the hardened near-surface layer in the zone of laser cutting of parts before cutting is set depending on content of carbon in the part, thickness of the sheet, power of laser radiation, speed of laser cutting, pressure of process gas, position of focal spot.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is combining the process of producing finished articles from sheet material by laser cutting with simultaneous surface hardening thereof and controlling depth of the hardened surface layer.
