SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a stream of C8 aromatic compounds with a selected amount of C9 aromatic compounds, comprising steps of: fractionation of a hydrocarbon stream comprising C8 aromatic compounds and C9 aromatic compounds to a side fraction containing part of aromatic compounds C8 and part of aromatic compounds C9, and lower fraction containing remaining aromatic compounds C8 and C8+ hydrocarbons; fractionating the lower fraction and obtaining a heavy head fraction containing the remaining C8 aromatic compounds, combining the side fraction and the heavy head fraction to obtain a combined stream having a C9 aromatic content of 0.5 wt % to 5 wt %; feeding a combined stream containing aromatic compounds C8 and aromatic compounds C9 to a separation unit; bringing the combined stream into contact with the adsorbent in the separation unit and adsorbing the selected xylene isomer from the combined stream to obtain an extract stream and a raffinate stream, where the extract stream contains the adsorbed xylene isomer and part of the C9 aromatic compounds, and the raffinate stream contains unselected xylene isomers and the rest of the C9 aromatic compounds; adsorbing the adsorbed xylene isomer to the desorbent and separating the selected xylene isomer from the adsorbent to obtain a stream of desorbent and the selected xylene isomer and separating the desorbent and the selected xylene isomer. Invention also relates to the device.
EFFECT: invention enables to efficiently produce selected xylene isomers.
