FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to carbon-containing coated particles for use as a catalyst or an adsorbent material and a method for production thereof, as well as a functional material, in production of which such particles are used. Coated particles are obtained by a detonation method using a non-as-insulted starting substance by placing an explosive at a detonation speed of 6300 m/s or more around the starting material, including an aromatic compound with two or less nitro groups, detonation of said explosive to obtain carbon particles, including graphite of turbostratic structure, nanodiamonds and/or carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, and application of obtained carbon particles on surface of particles of the main material. To obtain a functional material, the coated particles are deposited on the surface of the substrate material.

EFFECT: use of coated particles imparts lubricating properties and improves wear resistance of material.
