SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication and specifically to protection of messages. Method of protecting messages includes receiving an authentication agreement request message and keys sent by an SGSN, acquiring a first algorithm identifier at the user equipment GMM/SM protocol level in accordance with the authentication agreement request message and keys and generation of the first key, verification of the first authentication code of the message at the user equipment GMM/SM protocol level in accordance with the first key and the first algorithm, generating an authentication authentication message and keys at the user equipment GMM/SM protocol level in accordance with the first key and the first algorithm, and sending the authentication response message by the user equipment and switches to the SGSN by using the user equipment GMM/SM protocol layer level so that the SGSN verifies the second message authentication code.
EFFECT: technical result is high security of transmitting messages in a wireless communication system.
